According to the 2015 Dietary Guideline, the US population does not meet recommendations for vegetable consumption, but we can turn that around! Vegetables are the ideal food for weight loss and weight maintenance. Non-starchy vegetables like leafy greens, celery, broccoli, and summer squash are low in calories for the amount of volume that they have. Vegetables can be used to increase the portion of the food visually without adding many calories.
Start thinking of vegetables first when you are thinking about eating a meal or snack. Make a list of all the vegetables you do like and start creating ways you can add them into the foods that you do eat. Vegetables make food fun whether it is with their vibrant colors or the process of figuring out what to do with them.
