Top 5 Reasons To Visit H3 In The Fall

Posted on Oct 15, 2018 by Hilton Head Health

Fall is an amazing time of year to visit Hilton Head Island. The temperatures are starting to fall, yet it's still warm enough to enjoy yoga on the beach or kayaking on the water. Our team pulled together some of their favorite fall explorations that you can pair with your LivingWell stay for a unique healthy getaway you can only enjoy during this time of year.

Pickney Island Bird Watching

Grab your sneakers and explore Pickney Island's 14.1 miles of trails where you can see some of the 250 species that call this National Wildlife Refuge home. During fall migration, you can spot warblers and other migratory song-birds among the live oaks on this picturesque island.

Every Wednesday through December, you can join an experienced bird watcher from the Coastal Museum for a special 2-hour walk and explore the birds of Pickney Island. This is a great way to learn more about the amazing species that call this place home.

Sweetgrass Basket Classes

Get creative this fall at the Coastal Discovery Museum Sweetgrass basket classes! You can learn about this Gullah tradition that originated in the Winward and Rice Coasts of West Africa and how it was originally a part of our region's agriculture. Over time, these coiled baskets have become a part of household goods and one of Lowcountry's best-known art forms.

During this class, you'll be able to create your own sweet grass basket using the locally found natural materials that include sweet grass, pine needles, bull rush, and palms.

Fall In Love With Biking

Rated as a Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the American League of Bicyclists, Hilton Head Island is the ideal place to take a ride. With more than 60 miles of multi-use trails, you can explore our natural setting including our beautiful beaches. Two of our favorite places to start a ride include Honey Horn where you can go through Jarvis Creek Park and Pope Avenue where you can easily access the beach, Coligny shops, or enjoy the view from the Cross Island Bridge. If you haven't been on a bike since you were a kid, HHI is the perfect place to explore the freedom and fun biking can provide.

Concours d’Elegance

The centuries-old love story between man and machine has no better showcase than Concours d’Elegance. Get your steps in while exploring more than 500 cars, boats, motorcycles, and aircraft that are exhibited across the two golf course fairways.

This four-day event on Hilton Head Island includes a vintage auto film showcase, seminars, and two unique automotive design sessions. If you have a love of vintage transportation, this is a unique experience you must enjoy this November!

Fall Performances

Located in the heart of Hilton Head Island is the award-winning regional Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. This fall they have an amazing line-up of performances that our guests can experience. These include:

Amadeus

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a rowdy young prodigy, arrives in Vienna, the music capital of the world – and he’s determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, court composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote Mozart's talent or destroy his reputation. Make time to see this 5 time Tony Award-winning play.

Stanley Jordan

A guitar virtuoso whose career took flight in 1985. He's known for his bold reinventions and soulful exploration of classical masterpieces, pop-rock hits, and jazz.

An American in Paris

Inspired by the Academy Award-winning film about World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan who was hoping to build a new name for himself. Named the Best Musical of the year and winner of 4 Tony Awards, this is a spectacular musical!
