What is Pickleball? Coach Royce Explains the Game!

What is Pickleball?

Are you ready to add some fun to your fitness routine? Look no further than Pickleball!

But what is Pickleball, you may ask?

In this video, Coach Royce gives us a crash course in Pickleball over at The Blue Zone, breaking down the fundamentals of the game, including the rules and court layout.

Pickleball is a sport that's a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It's played on a smaller court with a net in the middle and smaller racquets. The game is played with a plastic ball that is similar to a wiffle ball.

Here are the basic rules of the game:

  1. The game is played with two or four players. Each player uses a paddle to hit the ball over the net.
  2. The ball must be hit diagonally, meaning you can't hit the ball straight across the net.
  3. The ball must clear the net and land within the opponent's court for the point to be scored.
  4. You can't catch or hold the ball, it must be hit back over the net.
  5. The ball can't touch any part of the body or clothing, it must be hit with the paddle.
  6. If the ball goes out of bounds or hits the net, the point goes to the opposing team.
  7. The first team to score 11 points and ahead by at least 2 points wins the game.
  8. The serve is done underhand, with the ball hit diagonally from the right side of the court for one player, and from the left side of the court for the second player
  9. The serve must be done diagonally, and the ball must land in the opponent's service court, not touching the net, otherwise, it's a fault
  10. The receiving team must let the ball bounce before hitting it back
  11. The ball can be hit with a single or a double hit, but it can't be carried or thrown.
