Monday, November 4th - Welcome & Self-Compassion 101:
Learn how self-compassion inspires a counterintuitive shift out of self-criticism and into real motivation for overcoming overeating. After a warm welcome and a quick overview of this unique mind-body approach, you’ll dive into meditative practice and a little science behind the practice.
Tuesday, November 5th - Eat to Love: Getting Started:
If feeding yourself a steady diet of love and kindness is hard to imagine, this session will teach you quick and easy ways to get started. After sampling a mix of mini-meditations, a simple mindful eating meditation will help you discover what a difference mindful eating makes.
Wednesday, November 6th - Befriend Hunger: Distinguishing Between Physical & Emotional Hunger
If you’ve been entrenched in a weight-loss battle, becoming aware of your hunger can feel threatening, if not dangerous. Even if you’re convinced that hunger is your enemy, by the end of this session, you’ll understand why it’s the best friend you never knew you had. Not only will a mini-lecture teach you the difference between emotional and physical hunger, a hunger awareness meditation will help you feel the difference between the two hungers.
Thursday, November 7th - Am I Full Yet?:
The first session – a mindful group lunch – gives you the support you need to practice letting go of self-criticism and take pleasure and satisfaction in good food and company. After a brief discussion of the mindful meal, the second session will lead you through a guided eating meditation to help you recognize and respond to the ever-changing experience of taste sensation.
Friday, November 8th - Where Do You Go from Here?:
Rather than leave the workshop and hope for the best, you’ll do better to consider where you want to go. To help you entertain the possibilities, you’ll watch an illuminating video, review resources and set an intention to help you stay the course.

Jean is a Harvard Medical School-affiliated psychotherapist and the author of The Self-Compassion Diet. In addition to seeing individual clients in her Concord, Massachusetts private practice, she runs self-compassion groups for people with eating issues. She also writes about food and body-image issues for newspapers (from the Boston Globe to the LA Times), magazines (O: The Oprah Magazine, Shape, Self...) and online publications (NPR, WBUR, Huffington Post).
